  1. Meaning of Sangrok

The words composing the name "Sangrok" are directly translated into "Ever green". Twenty years ago in 1979 I did open my gym in the east of Seoul. Taekwondo has a very long history and did always developed in its forms but the deep meanings of it never changed. The deep meanings such as respect, etiquette etc. is the very fundamentals of Taekwondo which always have to survive. For this reason the name "Sangrok" was chosen in order to have these deep meanings to be continued for myself.
A parallel can be drawn to the Korean pine tree which is always green even though the winters are very cold and summer's very warm. The Korean pine tree which can get very old has many times been used in Korean poems as a symbol of strongest, long life and continuity.
During all the history of Korea the pine tree always stood as the symbol strength and as a place of refueling the spirits of the Korean people.
Because of these reasons I have chosen the name "Sangrok" for my academy. Since thirty years I do follow the "Sangrok" life and will do that also in future.

    Regards
    Master Chang
